Weekend Gas Watch:
CT Gas Prices Highest This Year
It's an unlucky Friday the 13th for drivers across Connecticut.
As we head into the weekend, the average price of gas across Connecticut is the highest it has been this year and, AAA is projecting the upward trend will continue at least through the end of May.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded today is $2.77, three cents more than a week ago, 9 cents more than a month ago and 30 cents higher than on this same day last year.
“In addition to the switch over to the more expensive summer blend of gasoline, prices are up because there is strong consumer demand and, at the same time, inventories have been dropping” says Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA in Greater Hartford.
On average, drivers all across the country are paying more at the pump. The average price of gas nationwide is $2.70 – higher than at any time in 2017, even following the spike after Harvey. In fact, that's the highest national average since July of 2015.
As usual, gas prices across Connecticut vary by region:
New Haven/Meriden: $2.74
New London/Norwich: $2.82
