Artistic Endeavors
September 7
Enjoy a showcase of creative works and eclectic crafts at Art in the Park at the Thomas J. Weithorn Bellevue Beach Park in Bellevue, Kentucky. Among the region’s top art festivals, this annual extravaganza attracts more than 90 local and national artists as well as an impressive lineup of musical performances. You’ll also find delicious treats from local restaurants and a kids’ area for aspiring young artists.

Down to a Fine Art
September 7–8
Each year, the Waveland State Historic Site in Lexington hosts some of Kentucky’s most creative artists and their work at the Waveland Art Fair, and this year’s sixth annual fair continues that tradition. In addition to viewing some extraordinary artwork, be sure to sample local foods and wines, stop by the kids’ activities area, and tour the site’s historic buildings, which include former slave quarters, an icehouse, a smokehouse and the main home.

Thank Brew Very Much
September 20–22
Is your idea of a great beer a stein of perfectly balanced German lager? Do you love complementing your beer with golden pretzels seasoned with just the right sprinkling of salt? Then put on your lederhosen, and bring your appetite to downtown Cincinnati for America’s Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, which lays claim to the country’s largest Oktoberfest. Also on tap at this annual celebration of Southwest Ohio German heritage are live music, the Running of the Wiener Dogs, the World Brat Eating Championship, the World’s Largest Chicken Dance and fun games

Goin’ to Owen
September 21–22
Head to Owenton, Kentucky, to see why families from all over the region flock to the Sweet Owen Day Festival. The annual celebration hosts more than 60 food and craft vendors, a 5K run/walk, a Kid Zone with interactive games and a petting zoo, and so much more.

It’s Game Time
October 11–13
CinCityCon at the Sharonville Convention Center in Sharonville, Ohio, presents all things gaming, from board games to card games to role-playing games. Dress to impress in your favorite cosplay outfit, and take a spin in the spaceship simulator. Also check out the flea market/game swap and game design contest. (Preregister online for an admission badge.)

’Tis the Season
October 12–13
When the leaves change to vivid colors and the air becomes cooler, it’s time to take part in the Turning of the Leaves Festival in Augusta, Kentucky. Each year, the city’s shops and stores open their doors to local crafters who set up along Main Street. In addition to shopping for authentic Kentucky-made products, visitors can tour the historic jail and join the fun with Oktoberfest activities at locations throughout town.

Salt Fest

Just Add Salt

October 18–20
Hop in your time machine, and experience days long past during the 37th Annual Salt Festival in Union, Kentucky. Big Bone Lick State Historic Site hosts a variety of hands-on demos showing how pioneers lived on the frontier and the skills they developed to survive. Also enjoy folk and bluegrass music, browse handmade goods at the crafter’s corner, view prehistoric artifacts, and listen to a storyteller.
